Ergonomic and worksite assessments are available to all staff members of the Department whether they are injured during the course of their employment or as a preventative measure.

Worksite Assessments

A worksite assessment can be undertaken at the workplace to identify possible suitable duties or make recommendations for workplace modifications and/or job redesign to accommodate an injured or ill employee's return to work, and promote a safe work environment. The worksite assessment report will be completed and outline the results of the assessment and be forwarded to the injured employee, principal or line manager, medical practitioner and other involved parties. Worksite assessments are conducted by the Injury Management Consultants employed by the Department, or by a Vocational Rehabilitation Provider following referral.

Ergonomic Assessments of Computer Work Stations

An ergonomic assessment involves the evaluation of a workstation and the physical environment, and its interaction with the employee. The Department is committed to ensuring this by offering ergonomic assessments to employees.

This assessment involves assessing the need to adjust and make recommendations regarding the employee's workstation including, but not limited to:

  • seating
  • computer station
  • desk
  • mouse
  • foot rest
  • document holder
  • head set
  • keyboard

The assessment also considers the employee's

  • posture
  • pace
  • work speed
  • range of motion
  • position at the workstation
  • force applied to equipment
  • repetition rate required

Instruction is provided on injury prevention techniques, including suitable stretches and suggested rest breaks. A follow-up review may be conducted to ensure that recommendations are implemented.

The ergonomic assessment report outlines the results of the assessment and is forwarded to the injured or ill employee, principal or line manager, medical practitioner and other involved parties.

Ergonomic office assessments are conducted by Injury Management Consultants employed by the Department, or by a Vocational Rehabilitation Provider following referral.

If you would like to have your workstation assessed please contact an Injury Management Consultant.
